TextNow’s core text messaging experience was showing signs of age—users reported that it lacked personalization and was visually inconsistent.

I was tasked with leading the UX/UI refresh to modernize the interface, improve usability, and make the app feel more intuitive and trustworthy—especially for users juggling multiple conversations and media sharing.

I began with a UX audit of the conversation experience, analyzing user feedback, user complaints, and conducting lightweight usability tests to pinpoint friction points. From there, I restructured the conversation hierarchy, simplified the chat UI, and introduced a clean, modular design direction. Key improvements included clearer timestamps, accessible contrast, message grouping, voicemail & call elements, attachments, micro interactions, avatars, and a streamlined media preview experience. I also collaborated closely with engineering to ensure component reusability, consistency and performance.

Post-launch, qualitative feedback from early users highlighted major improvements in clarity and ease of use. The V3 design direction laid the foundation for our design system ‘Verse’, for future feature rollouts with greater consistency.
